Responsible AI for social impact

This week at the Infoxchange Tech for Social Justice Conference, leaders from across the not for profit (NFP) sector focused on one clear goal: making sure every community can benefit from the digital economy.

Australia is tackling an economy wide digital transition. Done well, it can lift productivity, improve services, and open-up new opportunities for people and organisations right across the country.

As Australians, we value fairness and equality. Our NFP sector plays a vital role in supporting people and communities across the country.  AI presents a unique opportunity for NFP’s to strengthen the way they support those who need it most, and to lead by example by showing how AI, when applied safely and responsibly, can uplift social inclusion and build confidence that it can deliver positive change for all Australians. 

Partnering to support capability uplift

Not-for-profits are adopting AI to meet the growing demand, reduce admin burden, and make limited resources go further. However, many organisations work with vulnerable communities and sensitive information, so using AI safely is essential.

Through our partnership with Infoxchange we’re helping to close the AI knowledge gap in the sector by providing practical, fit-for-purpose resources that organisations use straight away.

These resources are available through the Infoxchange Digital Transformation Hub. By using a trusted sector platform with strong reach across community organisations we can ensure that the communities that need these resources can find them quickly and easily.

The resources include: 

• On-demand e-learning for NFP leaders and workers on responsible AI. These self-paced courses cover the six essential practices, along with key topics such as algorithmic bias, data privacy and transparency.
• AI Decision Lab, an interactive tool to support AI governance and decision-making.
• Practical resources, including a NFP guide to AI procurement and guidance on employee engagement.

We’re also working with Infoxchange on case studies and simple communication products that show what responsible AI looks like in practice, because we know that real-world examples help build confidence.
